Rev. Dr. Steve Fitzgerald

The only absolute ever promised us in the Bible is Yahweh/God, and in relationship to Yahweh all else is indeed relative. I am absolutely sure of God and God’s love for you and for me. The Law, the Prophets, and the Wisdom books reflect movements of order, criticism, and integration—stages that lead us toward spiritual maturity. May your October be a time of growing into wisdom and awakening in the Spirit of Christ Jesus!

What does it truly mean to “listen and understand”? Through Jesus’ example, we’re reminded that spiritual growth begins with listening, asking thoughtful questions, and remaining open to the stories of God and others. As new Bible studies begin this fall, we invite you to get involved, grow in faith, and experience more of God’s presence and peace.

Drawing from Richard Rohr’s *Things Hidden*, this reflection explores God’s desire for a willing, intimate friendship with humanity. It traces our spiritual journey from tribal thinking to individual awareness and, ultimately, unitive consciousness—where faith gives us the patience to embrace mystery, hope allows us to live without certainty, and both lead us toward the true goal: love.
